Behavioral Parent Coaching

Parent training services are based on principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) or the science of how people learn and behave, specifically positive reinforcement. You will receive guidance and support from a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) who will offer research based methods to manage behaviors and support your child's development.

Research has shown that ABA parent training can lead to a happier interaction and positive communication between parent and child. This can lead to parents feeling less stressed and the overall family wellbeing can be improved (Koegel, et. al., 1996).

Acceptance and Commitment Training (ACT) is offered to parents who need help in managing the (physical, psychological, emotional) challenges that come with being a parent.

Each family has different dynamics and values. That's why we will work closely with each other to target goals that are meaningful to you. You as a parent, knows what is truly best for your child.

How does parent training work?

You will receive training on strategies to manage behaviors of concern and teach socially-appropriate behaviors. We will take a child-centered approach using teaching styles that match your child's learning style.

Developmental domains that may be included in behavior treatment plans are:

  • Functional Communication Training

  • Social Behavior and Play Skills

  • Cognitive Skills

  • Executive Functioning Skills

  • Motor Skills (Yoga)

We will also include teaching mindfulness and other coping skills that can help your child overcome challenges they may encounter in their daily life. Yoga is optional.

The key to the success of parent training is your participation and commitment. I invite you to schedule a 20-minute phone or video call to discuss how I can help with your family's well-being.

Services may be delivered virtually or in-person (San Fernando Valley, CA area).

Functional Behavior Assessment Process

During our FBA, we will find our baseline or starting point. It will be conducted before beginning coaching sessions.

If you have a child diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), the FBA and Parent Training may be covered by your health insurance provider. We will need to request for authorization. Please contact us.

Information Gathering

As part of the FBA, you will be completing assessment tools or questionnaires (e.g., Functional Assessment Screening Tool, Adaptive Behavior Assessment System, Social-Emotional Rating scales, etc.). It will answer "why" a behavior occurs. Direct observation (in-person or virtual) is required to assess developmental skills of children.

This may take 2-3 weeks.

02

Initial Meeting

This is a 60 -minute deep dive motivational interview and behavior health assessment.

04

Recommendation

Based on the results of the FBA, a BCBA will make a recommendation. We can discuss more about this as it is individualized.

Then, we can begin your journey to wellbeing!

Invest in your family's wellbeing!
