Health & Well-being
Principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) align with wellness coaching. The objective is to help people replace or reshape behaviors, and learn tools to deal with multiple life challenges. Well-being is the presence of positive emotions and moods (e.g., contentment, happiness), the absence of negative emotions (e.g., depression, anxiety), satisfaction with life, fulfillment and positive functioning (CDC, 2018). There are different layers or koshas that make up our wellbeing: Physical, Financial, Social, Mental, Purpose, & Emotional (Carmack S., 2020). In our coaching sessions, we will focus on areas you would like to work on. Then, come up with practical goals that are important and motivating for you. I will provide you with the knowledge and tools you need so you can make enlightened choices. I am your guide and I will respect your choices without judgment.

Mindful Yoga
Yoga is included in wellness coaching sessions because it creates an avenue to connect our physical and mental states through movement. Such mind-body connection translates off the mat and encourages us to recognize and appreciate where we are with regards to our wellbeing. Mindful Yoga-based Acceptance Commitment Training (MYACT) aims to help us understand our behaviors in the present moment and why we engage in them, and with what knowledge, work to decrease unworkable behaviors and increase workable behaviors - those that bring people closer to the life they want to live, or their values (Gordon and Barushok, 2019).

Yoga Styles
I incorporate the following styles depending on the client's needs, preferences and comfort level.
-
Hatha Yoga is a gentle form of yoga that focuses on asanas (poses) paired with breathing techniques (pranayama), and meditation (dyana). It is ideal for beginners. Vinyasa style may be included for intermediate learners.
-
Restorative Yoga is a therapeutic form of passive static stretching where props are used to support the body.
-
Yin Yoga is slow-paced and targets the deep tissues in our body. It is based on Taoist philosophy that "chi" or "qi" flows through our body, and by holding the poses for 2 minutes or more, we remove blockages allowing energy to flow.
-
Chair Yoga is a restorative practice ideal for the office or for individuals that need extra support in mobility and flexibility.
-
Guided Meditation includes breathing exercises and mantras combined with mental imagery and body scanning.
